Intercollegiate Program

Briarwood's involvement with the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) began way back in the 1980's. At that time the IHSA's founder, Bob Cacchione was working hard to establish an amazing program promoting serious competition amongst college students. The Assocation that has evolved has changed only slightly throughout the years. It brings students together to compete in showing while still addressing their campus obligations. Riders come dressed to show thier skills, taking their boots, helmets and showcoats with them from campus. Yet no horses travel with them - they rise to the challenge of riding horses provided to them by a facility hosting the event. The competition involves classes on-the-flat and over-fences, with the winner being the rider who best presents a correct and stylish ride on an unfamiliar horse! Depending on the size of the team, upwards of 25 riders from each team come to us for lessons and training. They ride each week to hone their skills on our horses, and look forward to getting their favorite "draw" when they do a "home" show at Briarwood!

Briarwood Farm is also host facility to several Zones and Regions for their IHSA Shows.
