Outdoors....and Unplugged!!

Our summer day camp is for dedicated young riders ages 6-17 offering individualized programming in all aspects of English horsemanship, stable management, animal husbandry and horse care.  Much planning, preparation and dedication has made ours a safe, high quality summer program for youngsters.  Safety is stressed and our instructors are schooled to understand children as well as horses.  Our staff offers years of knowledge of riding, jumping and showing, as well as experience working with students of all capabilities and expectations.

The philosophy of those of us at Briarwood extends beyond horses.  We believe and stress a sense of responsibility, a response to the needs of others, and growth toward independence and solid thinking.  This is achieved by close interaction among the youngsters and through the caring for and the love of horses.  We feel this is truly what makes our summer camp a rich experience for children for over 30 years.

Camp runs Monday through Friday in week-long sessions.  Our full-day program is from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. offering two fully structured riding lessons each day.  Our half-day sessions (offered to the very young) is from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with one riding lesson daily.  Our very busy days are filled with riding lessons, lectures, written work, hands-on projects and games and activities.  Campers are to bring their own lunch.  ASTM approved helmets and riding shoes are required.  Several weeks in the summer offer an opportunity to join in the summer show circuit under the direction of Briarwood staff.  Showing is an elective chosen by riders with guidance from their instructors and counselors, offering an exciting glimpse into the world of showing.
